A Tribute to Jim B. Smith, VK9NS, SK

zoomHIDXA - The Heard Island DX Association
The Heard Island DX Association, Incorporated was formed in 1980 by Jim Smith (VK9NS then P29JS) and several P29 amateurs to enable the Association to deal with the relevant authorities regarding the possibility of an Amateur Radio Expedition to Heard Island. This DXpedition finally came to fruition in 1983 and was driven by the funding of the expeditioners themselves and by the support of several hundred radio amateurs. In 1983, after the Heard Island Expedition, a move was made to separate H.I.DX.A. Inc. from the idea of setting up an amateur radio DX club. They had received so many letters of support from radio amateurs.
So in late 1983 the HIDXA Club became a reality and since then, the club has been run from Norfolk Island as a registered non-profit making organisation by Jim Smith (VK9NS) and Kirsti Jenkins-Smith (VK9NL). The contributions from the Life Members and annual Members gave the Club the financial base to enable further DXpeditions to take place.
