Abbott und Costello - Bud Abbott und Lou Costello - waren in den 1940er- und frühen 1950er-Jahren ein berühmtes Komiker-Duo aus den USA, das in Film, Radio, Theater und Fernsehen auftrat. Die beiden trafen sich 1931 im Brooklyn Theater in New York, wo Abbott als Kassier arbeitete und Costello ihn als Ersatz für seinen erkrankten Partner als Stichwortgeber einsetzte. So begannen sie ihre Karriere in Burlesquen, Varietés, Musikshows und Filmtheatern. Nach ihrem ersten Film One Night in the Tropics im Jahr 1940 folgten zahlreiche Filmprojekte und 1952 bekamen die beiden auch eine eigene Fernsehserie, The Abbott and Costello Show. 1957 trennten sie sich aufgrund von Problemen mit der Steuerbehörde.
